Flat for students VS dorms

I hope this information can help you to decide weather you want to be in a dorm or rent a flat

Dorms

Social enviroment, Get to know international and hungarian students, you can make a lot of friends

Is easy to participate of the University events.

Save money, 43700 forints free, about 110 american dollars to be used in any way you can

The enviroment is super safe, with a security guard in the front desk.

you can even order food online really easily.

Conts

No privacy, in you don´t get lucky you may have noisy roommates.

Dorms are not always available, its due to the capacity of the University, for example Universities like BME in Budapest just offers dorms to best academic GPA students, if your university doesn´t offer you a dorm, you have to rent a flat.

If you decide to move out from the dorms, your stipendium amount still as 43700 ft until de end of the semester even if you are not using the dorm anymore.

Flats

Some options to rent flats are:

Facebook: Marketplace

https://studenthousing.hu/

https://ingatlan.com/

Pros: You have more privacy, your personal space

Conts: You will receive a montly stipendium of 83700 ft, about 214 USD, which is not enought for your montly spendings.

Be aware of scams, make sure is a real person renting the appartment, also ask ro a recipt when you pay the rent just in case

Pécs: Shared rooms coud cost around 70000 ft, plus utilities so about 230 USD in total

Flats with one bethroom, a kitchen and a living room in Pécs can cost around 100000 to 150000 forints plus utilities, aprox 280 USD, most of the flats don´t include internet nowadays so that is an extra cost

Utilities are around 15000 ft ( 38 USD) in summer and 30000 (77 USD) in winter (gas is expensive),  in Budapest they are more expensive.

In all of them you need to pay 1 month of rent plus 2 months deposit, ask for a contract so you can get your address card (nessesary for a lot of paperwork in Hungary)

Budapest: Student residencies, similar to dorms 300 euros plus utilities, in Budapest a lot of people are offering the price in euros because of the inflation and inestabilitie of the forints

FInally, If there is an issue in the apartment call to the landlord

Conclusion: Dorms are the most cost effective option for students, in my opinion, I recommend you to stay in the dorms for the first semester or even a year before you move out.

Unless you come with a family member, in that case you will need for sure to find something out of the university.
